Sacred Sites in Nathdwara
Shrinathji Temple: The primary temple that is dedicated to Shrinathji (infant Krishna), founded in 1672. The Pushti Marg shrine is considered to be one of the biggest Krishna temples within India. It was a place where the gods were brought from Vrindavan to guard it against Mughal Aurangzeb's iconoclasm.
The temple is governed by strict rules with eight each day daily darshans (jharokha) that begin at Mangla (early early in the morning) through Shayan Aarti (night). Every darshan is timed according to a specific schedule and the god is dressed with different adornments. Photography is prohibited within. The temple's management is very controlled, and all devotees must adhere to dress codes and guidelines.
The god of Shrinathji is depicted as Krishna raising Govardhan mountain by his left arm to protect villager from the curse of Indra. The idol of black stone is exquisitely decorated with elaborate clothing, jewelry as well as flowers that change as you darshan.
Pichwai Paintings Nathdwara is a world-renowned destination for Pichwai art. It is known for its intricate artwork of Shrinathji as well as Krishna leela-related scenes.
